this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst
thing I’ve ever seen.’
‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot?
Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her
in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is.’
Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its release
last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic
box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and
half that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for
the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical
element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the
franchise.

Oct 22 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International’s (PMI) shares hit record highs on Tuesday after the cigarette maker
raised its annual profit forecast and beat third-quarter estimates thanks to higher prices and strong demand for its smoking alternatives.
PMI has invested billions of dollars in developing substitutes for cigarettes as health-conscious consumers switch to smoking alternatives in some markets, including its IQOS heated tobacco device and ZYN nicotine pouches, which are now a key focus for investors.
U.S. ZYN shipments in the quarter grew 41.4% over the
prior-year period, rebounding after supply constraints curtailed rapid growth.
The Marlboro maker has been investing to expand production capacity for ZYN,
in an effort to meet strong demand.
The company’s flagship heated tobacco device, IQOS, also saw strong growth in regions such as Japan, Europe and Indonesia, reassuring investors after volumes lagged expectations in the past.
“We delivered exceptionally strong performance, with record quarterly net revenues and earnings per share,” said Chief Executive Officer Jacek
Olczak, adding IQOS growth had also accelerated.
PMI’s shares rose 9%, and remained almost 8% higher at
11.43 a.m. (1543 GMT) in New York trading.
The company also enjoyed higher shipment volumes for cigarettes, with higher pricing also driving a 5.2% increase in revenues from its combustible
tobacco business.
PMI raised its forecast for 2024 adjusted earnings per share, excluding
currency, to between $6.85 and $6.91, compared with
its prior range of $6.67 to $6.79.
It reported revenue of $9.91 billion for the third quarter, versus analysts’ estimates of $9.69 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Its quarterly adjusted profit of $1.91 per share also beat estimates of $1.82 per share.
Last week, Philip Morris said it, along with peers British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco, would pay C$32.5
billion ($23.6 billion) to settle long-running health-related lawsuits in Canada.

still without power in Puerto Rico on Thursday almost two weeks
after Hurricane Fiona hit the island, data showed.
After causing devastation in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Fiona turned north and
slammed into eastern Canada on Sept. 24, leaving more than a third of Nova Scotia without

Nova Scotia Power, a unit of Canadian energy company Emera Inc, said about 78,200 customers were still without power there

Those numbers were down from 349,000 customers recorded without power a day earlier, suggesting a much faster
pace of restoration than when the much bigger Hurricane Maria struck about five years ago.
LUMA Energy said it restored service to 1.178
million customers by early Thursday and expects to have 77%-91% of customers restored
by Friday if there is sufficient generation available.

causing one fisherman to drown, and detained 31 crew members
from one of the boats, a spokesperson for Thailand’s Defence Ministry said.
Two of 15 Thai fishing vessels were fired at after they operated 4-5.7
nautical miles (7.4-10.6 km) inside Myanmar’s territorial waters, spokesperson Thanatip Sawangsang said in a
statement.
Three fishermen jumped into the water during the incident, one
of whom drowned while two were rescued by the Thai navy, Thanatip said.
One of the boats, with 31 fishermen on board, was detained by Myanmar’s navy during
the encounter, Thanatip said, adding that the Thai navy was in negotiations to secure their release.
Myanmar’s ruling junta did not immediately respond to a telephone request for comment.
A spokesperson for the Thai Foreign Ministry, Nikorndej Balankura,
said the ministry was also coordinating with authorities in Myanmar to seek the fishermen’s release
and evaluating whether any violations of international law had taken place.
The fishery department in Thailand’s southern Ranong province, which shares a
maritime border with Myanmar, urged Thai fishing vessels to be careful when traveling near the boundary.
Myanmar has been in crisis since 2021 when the military seized
power, toppling an elected government and sparking an armed rebellion by crushing protests with
lethal force.
Rebels have mounted unprecedented attacks, seizing control of border areas and
making inroads into the country’s formerly peaceful
heartlands.

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.

forecast for the heated tobacco business.

Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes amid
stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.
The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing resistance from health campaigners,

A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has

Oct 22 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International’s (PMI) shares hit record highs on Tuesday after the cigarette maker
raised its annual profit forecast and beat third-quarter estimates thanks to higher prices and strong demand for its smoking alternatives.
PMI has invested billions of dollars in developing substitutes for cigarettes as health-conscious consumers switch to smoking alternatives in some markets, including its IQOS heated tobacco device and ZYN nicotine pouches, which are now a key focus for investors.
U.S. ZYN shipments in the quarter grew 41.4% over the
prior-year period, rebounding after supply constraints curtailed rapid growth.
The Marlboro maker has been investing to expand production capacity for ZYN,
in an effort to meet strong demand.
The company’s flagship heated tobacco device, IQOS, also saw strong growth in regions such as Japan, Europe and Indonesia, reassuring investors after volumes lagged expectations in the past.
“We delivered exceptionally strong performance, with record quarterly net revenues and earnings per share,” said Chief Executive Officer Jacek
Olczak, adding IQOS growth had also accelerated.
PMI’s shares rose 9%, and remained almost 8% higher at
11.43 a.m. (1543 GMT) in New York trading.
The company also enjoyed higher shipment volumes for cigarettes, with higher pricing also driving a 5.2% increase in revenues from its combustible
tobacco business.
PMI raised its forecast for 2024 adjusted earnings per share, excluding
currency, to between $6.85 and $6.91, compared with
its prior range of $6.67 to $6.79.
It reported revenue of $9.91 billion for the third quarter, versus analysts’ estimates of $9.69 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Its quarterly adjusted profit of $1.91 per share also beat estimates of $1.82 per share.
Last week, Philip Morris said it, along with peers British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco, would pay C$32.5
billion ($23.6 billion) to settle long-running health-related lawsuits in Canada.

pace of restoration than when the much bigger Hurricane Maria struck about five years ago.
LUMA Energy said it restored service to 1.178
million customers by early Thursday and expects to have 77%-91% of customers restored
by Friday if there is sufficient generation available.
LUMA is a joint venture owned by units of Canadian energy firm ATCO Ltd (50%) and U.S.
energy contractor Quanta Services Inc (50%).

BANGKOK, Nov 30 (Reuters) – Myanmar’s navy opened fire on a group of Thai fishing vessels on Saturday,
causing one fisherman to drown, and detained 31 crew members
from one of the boats, a spokesperson for Thailand’s Defence Ministry said.
Two of 15 Thai fishing vessels were fired at after they operated 4-5.7
nautical miles (7.4-10.6 km) inside Myanmar’s territorial waters, spokesperson Thanatip Sawangsang said in a
statement.
Three fishermen jumped into the water during the incident, one
of whom drowned while two were rescued by the Thai navy, Thanatip said.
One of the boats, with 31 fishermen on board, was detained by Myanmar’s navy during
the encounter, Thanatip said, adding that the Thai navy was in negotiations to secure their release.
Myanmar’s ruling junta did not immediately respond to a telephone request for comment.
A spokesperson for the Thai Foreign Ministry, Nikorndej Balankura,
said the ministry was also coordinating with authorities in Myanmar to seek the fishermen’s release
and evaluating whether any violations of international law had taken place.
The fishery department in Thailand’s southern Ranong province, which shares a
maritime border with Myanmar, urged Thai fishing vessels to be careful when traveling near the boundary.
Myanmar has been in crisis since 2021 when the military seized
power, toppling an elected government and sparking an armed rebellion by crushing protests with
lethal force.
Rebels have mounted unprecedented attacks, seizing control of border areas and
making inroads into the country’s formerly peaceful
heartlands.
Thailand’s army last week played down local media
reports of heightened tensions on the land border
with Myanmar in an area where there is a longstanding dispute with the controlling ethnic armed group, saying the reports

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.
to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual
forecast for the heated tobacco business.
The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas, in the second quarter, for which the
company reported results on the day.
The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.
Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes amid
stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.
The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing resistance from health campaigners,
who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company of misrepresenting past regulatory decisions,
Reuters reported last week.
The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for
its IQOS ILUMA device, which it expects by the second half of 2025.
A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has
already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the impact from the
ban was “slightly greater” than previously assumed.
This led the company to temper its expectations
for volume growth in the heated tobacco category to around
13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.
However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised its annual sales and profit forecasts, betting on demand for its Zyn nicotine

Lady Gaga fans are begging the singer to do a global tour – two years after her last tour,
The Chromatica Ball.
The pop superstar, 38, is preparing to release her seventh album,
with fans hoping this will lead to a string of concerts.
However, a Live Nation spokesperson confirmed: ‘There is no 2025 tour planned.’
The Sun reports that Lady Gaga will instead tour in 2026.
It comes as the hitmaker is set to release her new song
Disease on Friday, as the first single from her forthcoming seventh album.
